TO LICH RIVER: HEAVY METAL AND NUTRIENT POLLUTION ANALYSIS
Ngoc Nguyen, Brian Majestic, Michael Daniels, Hung Duong
To Lich River is the longest river in Hanoi, Vietnam. It has received nearly 2/3 of city wastewater during the last 20 years, while, at the same time, the city population has tripled. This research has been on-going since July 2019, aiming to investigate the pollution of seven typical heavy metals (Cr, Ni, Cu, Zn, As, Cd, and Pb) inside both river sediments and water, as well as collecting essential water quality parameters (Dissolved Oxygen, Total Nitrogen, Phosphorus, etc.) in 19 river locations. Analysis methods include Geo-accumulation Index, Enrichment Factor, Sediment Quality Guidelines, Hierarchical Cluster Analysis, and Principal Component Analysis. In addition, the results were analyzed temporally and spatially by comparing to four previous studies on To Lich River and using Arc GIS Pro to produce pollution distribution maps.
